Celebrating Chinese New Year at the Bournemouth Library

Updated: Mar 12, 2022

Everyone who attended the Bournemouth Library in February 2020 could join an amazing show to celebrate Chinese New Year. Over 200 guests attended the event, and VIP guests included the Mayor of Bournemouth Cllr. Susan Phillips, the Leader of Councilor Cllr. Vikki Slade, Cllr. Lawrence Williams, Cllr. Jane Kelly, Mr. David Jones, Cllr. Lewis Allison, Ms. Beryl Baxter, Mr. Chris Saunders, Linda Maquire, Lianne Chorley, Barry Meehan.

Before the show started, the young guests participated in the Mask Competition. All submitted works were judged by the honourable judges, including the Mayor of Bournemouth, and the winners were announced during the show.

So many talented singers, dancers, narrators performed on the day! Pupils from Bournemouth Chinese School recited poems, sang traditional Chinese songs, performed acrobatics on Aerial Hoop, and pleased the audience with fascinating traditional dancing. Other performing groups included Bournemouth and Poole Chinese Angels Art Association, UK Jiang Chipao Youth Group, UK JCPC Bournemouth and Poole, Action Fighters Martial Arts Team, and a distinguished singer from Russian Gnesin's Academy of Music Cai Lin Fang.

We are very grateful to the 25th anniversary fund of The National Lottery Community Fund, who sponsored the event. Also, big thank you to the administration of the Bournemouth Library for accommodating the event, and to the Rotary Club of Bournemouth North and BCP Council for their support, and especially to Mayor Cllr. Susan Phillips. Also, big thanks to our photographer Christopher Smiley, and Illusion Production for videoing the event.

Happy and Prosperous New Year to everyone!
