Teach In Cambodia

PenBuddies Cambodia is a voluntary programme initiated by Wisdom Foundation for anyone who are travelling to or live in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Thanks to public donation, we are currently sponsoring a Non-Profit Organisation - Cambodian's Children House of Peace (CCHP) in Siem Reap, Cambodia on their daily 2-hours English class (Monday - Thursday) and weekly Wisdom PenBuddies session (Friday). These classes are free-of-charge for an approximately 50 poor students who live around CCHP.
You would be able to visit CCHP and help up the preparation for Wisdom PenBuddies session on Friday. There are 4 key sections in our Wisdom PenBuddies session: 30-minutes global cultural sharing (Topic provided), 45-minutes to teach the children how to read and write letter to their PenBuddies, 30-minutes fun activity that relates to the given topic and final 15-minutes of reflective session.

Share your cultural experience & teach Cambodian children
how to read and write.
Siem Reap, Cambodia
Cambodia is a country still rebuilding after a two decades long civil war, the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge rule, and the following long civil unrest. This legacy has lead to 30% of the population living below the national poverty line and 80% of the people still leaving in the countryside, sustained mostly only through farming. Those conditions worked together to leave many children vulnerable.

Why CCHP?
During a family trip to Siem Reap back in June 2017, CCHP was found by our co-founder. Understand that education is the only way out of poverty, we have then pledged to sustain 1 year English class by hiring a local English teacher. We have also introduced them Wisdom PenBuddies session so that the Cambodian kids could enjoy an equal opportunity to make international friends and learn through the global cultural sharing.
Our Students
According to our PenBuddies Cambodia Manager, the children in CCHP are from poor rural backgrounds and most of them are orphans or have lost one parent. Their extended families have an average of USD$10 a month to support their entire family so they can't afford to educate the children. Moreover, children and adults are also suffering from malnutrition and associated with health problems, which prevent them from proper academic and social learning.

What would you be helping?
Here are the 4 key sections of our Wisdom PenBuddies session:
Culture Sharing
30-minutes
We have a wide range of global cultural topics to share within a standard 30 minutes presentation.
Read & Write
45-minutes
After understanding the global culture lesson, we will then teach the children how to read and write letter to their PenBuddies.
Fun Activity
30-minutes
Once we have sealed the letter into given envelope, we will guide the children in fun learning activity that relates to the global cultural topic.
Reflective
15-minutes
It is important to ensure our children reflect on the topic that they have learned. We will also make sure they know the letter delivery status.
